About courses mapped on SEP

  1. You must read the Unit Ratio of the NUS courses and the PU courses, to ensure that you take a workload of 20 units equivalent to NUS courses at your PU.

  2. You will also only be receiving a pass/fail grade on the courses you read at your PU. the S/U option therefore does not apply.

  3. All mappings must be 1-to-1 mappings, i.e. mapping 2 courses at NUS to 1 course at the PU, or vice versa, will not be approved.

SEP Application

  1. When filing in your SEP application, you are required to submit the list of courses you plan to map to your top choices of destination Universities.

  2. Before choosing the PUs you apply to, note the courses that you may be able to map, such that SEP will not affect your academic progress.

Course Mapping Worksheet

  1. After receiving an offer from NUS to go on SEP at a PU, you will have to complete a Course Mapping Worksheet.

  2. Refer to this link for a detailed user guide on how to complete this. This user guide applies to FASS students only.

  3. Submit your Course Mapping Worksheet early so that you have sufficient time to make changes to your plans for before and during SEP.

Which courses can be mapped?

  • You cannot map core economic courses or courses that are level-4000 or higher (the department does not approve it!)
  • Successfully mapped courses usually have 75% similarity in content with the ones in NUS. (This should be a 1 to 1 content similarity, not a combination of courses!)
    • To check the similarity of the courses, you may access the syllabus of the NUS course on Canvas (yes, even if you are still in Year 1).
      1. Simply go to “Courses” > “All courses” in the sidebar, and search the course code or title of the course of interest.
      2. Select the course you are interested in and click on “Syllabus”. This should be the only tab you can access.
      3. Apart from the main body of the syllabus, you may gain a clearer picture of content covered in the course from the textbook and readings used.
    • To find out more about the course at NUS or at the PU, you may email the respective Professors or academic coordinators.
  • If a course at the PU does not have a suitable mapping to a course in NUS, you may be able to map it to an EC dummy course.
    • This is not always possible. For example, if the course in the PU is a combination of 2 courses in NUS, or vice versa, the mapping will not be allowed.

Past mapped courses

  1. For students who are interested in mapping EC coded courses, you may refer to this link  to access the list of courses that were mapped by your seniors on SEP in the past for some inspiration.

    • Tip: download a copy of the spreadsheet so that you can filter the data according to your needs.

  2. Do note that not all successful course mappings of the past will be approved in the present/future.

  3. Look out for some signs that the course may not be mappable anymore.

    • Changes in the content of the syllabus, of the course at NUS or the course at the PU.

    • Changes in the Faculty teaching the course at NUS or at the PU.

  4. You may also try to map courses that are not in the list. Submit your Course Mapping Worksheet early so that you may find out early whether the course is mappable.
